Prayer Request

One thing that I have heard and have seen in action is that most people, even if they say they don't really believe in God... will normally let you pray for them. It's amazing the comfort and love that is shown when we pray for one another. Plus, amazing things happen as we pray and care for one another. Pray is often more about us adjusting our mindset, changing our hearts than really getting something from God.

So Let us pray for each other.
If you have pray request.... post it. I will try my best to pray for you and I ask that you also pray for the request posted on this site. Then as prayers are answered, you see God movel, resolution happens..... let us hear what happened. Pray is a great thing, hearing the outcome of our prayers is even a greater thing!

Here is our first request.... it comes from Capt. Slappy. Thanks Capt. for sharing the request.

REQUEST:
" I need everyone that’s willing to be praying that Qwest & the union reach an agreement on the contract. Right now the date for the expiration of our contract is 08-13-05. The company and the union are so far apart, I think it’s going to take a miracle to avoid this strike. I really don’t want to strike, but I will have to if the union decides to. If that’s what it take to get the message across to the company than I guess that’s what it takes. I am a little better off than some of the people in that I will get strike pay from the beginning of the strike vs. 2 weeks into to it, but it's going to be a killer."

I thought I would add a couple verses about prayer to the prayer request blog. Really think about these verses while you pray for the petitions (prayer requests) left here.

2 Corinthians 1:11
He will rescue us because you are helping by praying for us. As a result, many will give thanks to God because so many people's prayers for our safety have been answered.

Romans 1:9
God knows how often I pray for you. Day and night I bring you and your needs in prayer to God, whom I serve with all my heart by telling others the Good News about his Son.

Ephesians 6:18
Pray at all times and on every occasion in the power of the Holy Spirit. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all Christians everywhere.

Matthew 18:19 "I also tell you this: If two of you agree down here on earth concerning anything you ask, my Father in heaven will do it for you."

I thank God every day for the people of Journey who pray for each other. There are so many amazing things happening in this time for the Lord. Please always keep praying for your brothers and sisters in the church. The Lord hears your prays and is pleased when his children raise up each others needs. Let this not be just a Journey church thing, but a whole city thing. We can add other peoples prayers (with their permission) and the whole communicty can be lifting each other up. A church on it's knees will be a church that rocks the city and the world for the Lord.

Captain Slappy said...

Lord, I pray protection over all the pray warriors that will take up arms and pray for these request. Father I pray that everyone that lifts up one of these concerns for someone else will be blessed beyond their wildest dreams. I ask you, Lord, as people start praying for each other on a daily basis that you would bind us even closer together. I pray you increase the annointing in everyone at Journey and in all of our brothers and sisters in faith in Rochester. I pray that you pour out your Spirit on this city and start pulling people back to you. I pray that the churches that you start bringing these people to will embrace them with open arms. I thank you Lord for caring so much about us and allowing us to bring our concerns to you. Let us grow in unity so the world will see what a body of Christ really is.

Zechariah 8:20-22
"This is what the LORD Almighty says: People from nations and cities around the world will travel to Jerusalem. 21The people of one city will say to the people in another, `Let us go to Jerusalem to ask the LORD to bless us and to seek the LORD Almighty. We are planning to go ourselves.' 22People from many nations, even powerful nations, will come to Jerusalem to seek the LORD Almighty and to ask the LORD to bless them.

Today, I pray for the millions of people that will be affected by only the 4th Category 5 Hurricane to ever hit the U.S. Coast.

This is as big, or bigger, perhaps...than the media is making it out to be, believe it or not(in my opinion).

Oh, god...please shine down your mercy on the children and countless families who stand to be homeless by the end of late Sunday and Monday's horrible, horrible storm.

Lord, in your mercy...

Rich said...

I second the prayer request on behave of those affected by the hurricane. My mom's brotrher, Dave, and his wife had to fleee from their home. Word is has water up to the second level... total waste for all practical purposes.

This storm is also having an effect on gas and oli prices, it will affect our food distribution and much more. Praise God that few have lost their life. Pray that we all rebound, but especially those directly affected by this disaster.

"Heavenly Father, watch over this land".

Give praise to God for Dave Handel and his family as Dave has gotten one of his dream jobs. Dave and his family are quickly moving to Alabama. In fact things are hapening so fast Krissy (Dave's wife) and his kids left yesterday (8/29) for Alabama.

While we are happy for their joy, we are sad to say farewell to such dear friends and talented people.

As you give praise for their dream, pray that Journey Church finds a new dynamic, passionate worship pastor / leader. There are many that can play instruments and sing... but few that are really gifted as worship pastors / leaders. Pray that the right person is brought to us quickly, and he /she is a long term fit fir our growing church.

Pray for our city as we prepare to welcome many dispaced people from the south because of Hurricane Katrina. May we do all we can to offer long term love, help and assitance.

After yesterdays service I was amazed at the amount of personal prayer request that came my way.
Please join with me in this prayer.

"Lord, please help and watch over all of those that are hurting, or lonely at this time. Help those that are seeking jobs and need you wisdom and guidance.

At the sametime, thank you God for such a growing, caring church family. Thank you for people that are allowed / free to be themselves."

Rich said...

YEA GOD!!!!!

PRAISE GOD for new worship help.
Just this week Dave (our last latest worship leader) moved to Alabama. Then last night we had a very gifted young couple volunteer to join our team and help lead us musically.

"Thank you God for your timing and for the gifts of Rusty and Kelly. May they help us worship you and lead people to your throne in a powerful, passionate way."

Rich said...

Tonight I think of the thousnads down south that have already been displaced by Katrina and now RIta is bearing down on the same region / area.

My cry goes out to God to protect all life in that area. But my heart really wonders, will life ever really return to normal in that area of our country?

Prayer update on Rusty's dad and his cancer....
Read the following from Rusty....

"Long story short, they cancelled, actually postponed, his surgery becuase the surgeon took
his case before the specialist in madison and he recommended highly that my dad undergo chemo and radiation therapy before having the surgery. So that's the plan of action they're taking. He'll have to do 4 weeks of radiation and 6-8 weeks of chemotherapy starting next week.

We know you will, but please lift us up in prayer:

Widsom for Dr. Weigel and her surgical team
Peace for my mom and dad, Mary and Dan
for Colleen, my sister, and I.

Please also join us in praising God:

God allowed this tumor to develop in a place where my dad would notice it right away and they would be able to treat it."

Thanks for the update Rusty.... now let's pray some more!

In have just got off of the phone with the mom in Germany, there is a serious complication with my dad (Bill) recovery from neck surgery.

Praise God with us that the neck surgery went perfect. However, we seek you prayers for the following reasons.

In recovery my dad stopped breathing, aspirated into his lungs (an infection has already developed).
He lost feeling and movement in his arms.
A quick study revealed no signs of a heartache and no clot in the lungs.
However, it appears that he may have suffered a stroke.... unknown where or how extensive.
He is in a drug induced sleep state until they can learn more.
An MRI is planned for tonight, more info will be coming tomorrow.

Because he was there for a special procedure, at a special hospital he was transfered by ambulance (without my mom knowing) to another hospital about 20-25 minutes away. He will remain there until further notice it seems. (this is a heart hospital).
This other hospital has VERY few english speaking doctors and staff, mom is also concerned about the language barrier at a time like this.

Pray for healing, wisdom, strength, patience and ultimately God's will in this.

Thank you on behave of my mom and our family.

Rich said...

I just got an update on my fathers situation and life has changed for him.

Last evening doctors had to perform a 4 hour emergency surgery. He was bleeding heavily inside and the main doctor told my mom, "dad is lucky to be alive". However, the complications all were related to his planned neck surgery and they had to undo that and insert a steel rod in his back from C2-C2. He now can only face forward, no turning his head every again.

At this point my mom has visited dad only a little and not told all the details yet.
With this life change their return to the US is up in the air because he will need extensive therapy there.

PRAISE God that his life was spared and the doctors did all they could.
Pray for my dad (Bill), he has always been a active man.
Pray for my mom (Ellen) as she supports, loves and deals with these realities with my dad.

Thank you for your prayers at this time.

Things have only gotten worse with my dad. My admits that his condition is becoming more and life threating as each day passes. My mom is really feeling the impact.

Pray for me as I am trying to get an emergancy passport issued ASAP! Getting the flight is not the problem, a passport NOW is.

Pray for my older brother, Dan, as he flys out Monday to get to Germany first. If my dad should pass, I pray that Dan can at least get there first.

Captain Slappy said...

Update: Rich made it to the airport with passport in hand. As I type this he is boarding the plane to Amsterdam. His dad has become non-responsive. Please keep praying for his dad and his family. Rachel will be sending out an e-mail update tonight.

Rich said...

My brother and I made it here safe.
We went to see my dad right away.
He is connected to about 6 different machines.
Because of the lung infection, he now is fitting pneumonia.
He still has a breathing tube in him and will have one until he can breath on his own 100%.

This morning he awoke from his drug induced coma, and he saw and "communicated" by hand squeezes with us.
He was able to move both of his legs and his right arm... the left arm is still very week and may never fully recover.
A couple of the MRI showed something near his voice box. They did an procedure to see if it was cancer and it was not!!!

However, his throat and neck swelling are not coming down and the longer the breathing tube is in.... the more damage might be done to his voice box. By this weekend they must decide if they must open his throat area or risk living the tube in. They really don't want to do another major operation on him if at all possible.

Thank you for all the prayers love and support. My dad has a long way to go if he is to recover. We now wait, pray and see how each day goes.

From Oldenburg, Germany

Rich said...

Today we met with several doctors to hear the latest info and thoughts on my dad. They have reduced the amount of machines working on his body from 6 to 3, that's great news.

However, they still can't get the swelling down and without that they can't make any plans for treatment and rehab.

My dad was out of it almost all day, so please pray that the swelling disappears and real progress can be made. It has been a week now and he has been controled/help by heavy drugs all of that time. We are concern about post-prosedure drup withdrawal issues now as well.

Rich said...

Today was a better day for my dad.

They removed / turned off the breathing support tube machine and he was breathing strong enough on his own to make it through most of the day with only a open air way tube. However, he was kept in a coma state. They are keeping him under because he was trying to move and do to much the other day. They are afraid that he will try and remove all of the tubes that are helping him get better. (Knowing dad, that's a good bet... he tried once already this week). My Mom just checked on dad and they have the full air breathing support machine back on him again. It may be to help him through the night or they may have seen him begin loosing ground again... we don't know for sure.

The goal appears to be, have him breathing on his own fully by Monday, but that can only happen if the swelling starts reducing it's self. Please, pray for those two things. Otherwise nothing else can proceed.

Otherwise it was another chilly, grey day in Oldnberg, Germany.

Rich

Rich said...

Today felt and looked like Minnesota. We awoke to fresh snow and windy conditions.

Today, one a step back for my dad in some ways and a step forward in others. First, they put him back on the breathing support machine all day. He is able to breath some on his ownm, but he still needs the help of the machine. Speaking of machines, they actual removed two machines from his bed area. So thoughs are positive signs.
My dad was "awake" enough to move some today and make "contact" with us. However, his lift arm area was non-responsive most of the day.
This evening, he is again sleeping through a drug controled coma.

It now appears that I will not see him without the breathing tube before I leave on Monday. But, the life threating part of all of this appears to be over. Keep praying from health and strength and patience for my mom. This will be a long haul here in Germany before they ever get back to the states.

Rich said...

Todays is Sunday, March 12th...
Please continue to pray for my father (Bill). They have less and less machines connected to him and yet he is being kept druged up very very high. Wednesday was the most responsive day that we have had "communicating" with my dad since the surgery and complications.
Today was the worst day of trying to communicate to him through the drugs. Pray that the swelling goes do to a point where they can remove the air way on MONDAY. Then we can see if he can come out of the drug coma "fog" that he is in. Today, he shut his eyes and appeared to "tune" us out each time we came to vist and encourage. Dad didn't even appear to try and move his arms. It is now more than a week and concern about long term drug damage is really bothering my mom.

Pray for her peace and strength.
Pray that I will be a source of encouragement and help these next few days.

Rich said...

Greetings from Germany today March 13th.

Today was a much, much better day than yesterday.
Prayers are being answered!!!

Dad's 100% breathing on his own now and all they have down his throat is a tube to keep him from accidentally swallowing his tongue.
Dad moved and moved and moved today. Both legs were active (too active for the nurses), his right arm had some response back in it and the left arm is still very weak.
His "commuication" with his eyes and head were much better.

Praise God for the changes.

Now we pray that he can move to a private room (out of intsive care ward) and then pull the tongue tube so he can start to talk. He tried today and sounded like Chewie from Star Wars (I said that and dad laughed)

One more praise, my brother Dan got his ticket changed until Wednesday. So tonight mom, Dan and I are eating a meal in our church office bedroom/dinning room combo. We're creative :)

Rich said...

Greetings from Oldenberg, Germany on this sunnny Tuesday, March 14th.

This moring my dad was sittiing up out of bed in a chair!
He is breathing 100% on his own and he is fighting his back out of the drugs. But it's a tough battle we can tell. It will take while to clear his system. After a short while in the chair they moved him back into his bed for the rest of the day.

In the morning we met with the head of the intensive care unit (he had been on holiday last week).
He told us that dad appeared frustrated and depreased last night, so they really drugged him up again. The doctor also used words like "spinal injury" and "long term voice troubles". This doctor also said that he believes this procedure (disc replacement /neck work) should not be done on anyone ovrr 50. "I would never do it", he said.

My mom had this done last year at the same hospital and she is 100% better in so many ways. They had hoped the same for my dad. These doctors words were a shock for my mom to hear. We hope to talk to another doctor that we've delt with before. He has better english and seems to give us the real best information. Todays doctor appeared hesitant either because of lanuage barrier or other hidden concerns... we can't tell which it is.

We now know that the #1 thing is to have dad get his airway cleared out of all the junk in there.
#2 - beginning talking with us.

The doctors believe that it may be 3-4 more days before he is out of intensive care. And acheiving those two goals. Please continue to pray for those items and that my dads "fight" kicks in to begin the long road to recovery and rehab. In the afternoon hours dad was more awake and very aware. He shed some tears. It appears that as he's coming out of the drugs he is beginning to understand that something really, really went wrong. He as no idea of the full truth, but as the drugs wear off he will.

But PRAISE GOD with us... Dad is getting better. This is going to be a long process with many adjustments and more adjustments ahead for my mom and dad. Pray for God's loving arms to hold them and guide them through this.

Thanks, and have a great day with God.

Rich

PS - pray for my older brother Dan as he flys back to the states on Wednesday.

3-15-06 Oldenberg, Germany....

Today dad spoke...real words with his own voice. They didn't all make sense in a normal sentence structure, but he spoke. PRAISE God with us on this March 15th!.

Late in the afternoon they moved him to a private room in this high intensive care unit.
Mom and I spent much of the day by his side, talking to him and helping the nurse understand dads English that is now worse due to the drugs.

His legs continue to move well and both arms are moving. The right side remains stronger than the left, but there is movement on the left-side. Having movement on both sides is a very big deal. Now mom will spend the next days and weeks by his side, talking to him, loving him,and retelling him bits of information over and over until his mind can really remember it all and process it. As he gets better the full truth will be shared with dad. That will be a big impact day for all of us. Until that time we have not idea, how he respond, but so far great strides are being made.

Thanks for all of your continued prayers and support.
There is amazing power in prayer! Please keep praying from your heart for my dad and mom as she becomes the primary care giver to a guy that doesn't like being taken care of.

God bless,

Rich

My mother is going into surgery tomorrow morning because they had found three tumors in her lungs and one tumor in her stomach. They will remove the tumors in one side of her lung tomorrow and then four days later they will go into the other side and remove the remaining tumor. They are unable to remove the tumor in her stomach because it will cause more damage then good so they are hoping that chemo will kill it off. She will be in the hospital for two weeks and then once she is released she will have to have chemotherapy for six months. The lord healed her the first time so I know that he can do it again. Please ask everyone to pray for strength and healing for my mother and strength and peace for me and my family.

I appreciate everything that you do and we will see you on Sunday.

Dad is in a normal room now.
He is speaking more. The only tube left is the feeding tube. He has a pull-up bar over the bed and can reach it with his right arm, but needs help getting his left arm up there. The Doctor said it will be another week before they move him to Stenum.

Looks like another day of progress.

Praise from Jill McClamroch on a recent prayer request....

Bill wanted me to thank all of you for your prayers
yesterday! Things went very well on the surgery
table!!! All his vital signs looked very good
throughout the whole surgery....Praise God!!! It was
because of all the prayers that were being sent up for him! They took 1 kidney and some fatty tissue around that area to check to see if the cancer had spread. His prilimary tests all looked negative to that so we are hoping and praying for the best there too. Keith has a GREAT family and it was a wonderful opportunity to be able to be with them there. 9 out of the 12 kids were there and that was awesome to see! That family is blessed!!

Thanks again from myself and especially from Bill for all your prayers!!

Opps on the prayer request from Janell.... (earlier post), you're right Tony it first read like my mom.

"Please pray for my best friend Julie, she found a large lump in her throat on the thyroid and a smaller lump in the lymph node. She is having more tests this week, but she's praying that she be healed by God before she has to use medical intervention.....her faith is like a mountain right now!! She wants to approach the throne first then if needed go the medical route! Please pray for healing from whatever it is!!"

TiredOfVikes said...

that reminds me...I need to continue and pray for my mom's friend that I met on our trip to Florida. Her name is Eileen, and she will be having stuff done at Mayo on her Thyroid soon after they got back this past week!

UPDATE: Lola Johnson seems to be continuing to fight...coming into a semi-concious type state. Please pray for her husband, Bob...as my mom called tonight to say he has been having a really hard time...stays by her bedside and has family staying in town, going in and out regularly...but my folks could tell on their visit Monday that he is weakening in spirit.

Thanks again for the opportunity to blog these thoughts....

This prayer request comes from Tori....

James was recently contacted via e-mail from a friend who used to work with us at the Traveler's Hotel. Jean is Lebonese and is living here in the U.S. while most of his family is still in Lebanon. He told James that his family is trying to get out of the country because the war is quite literally happening in their backyard, but they haven't been able to get the paperwork passed that they need to leave. He asked for our prayers, but I wanted to send this out as a request for the whole church body to agree in prayer with James and I that Jean's family is protected by the blood of Jesus and that they will safely and swiftly be able to flee. We are also praying for Jean and his family's salvation in Christ. Jean doesn't believe in "our" God, but desperate times call for desperate measures...

Thanks,
Tori

I have discovered something that I wish to share. Recently, I had a break. I reached out to Rich and Bill and they were nothing but kind and supportive. It got me thinking. Journey Church is like Road Side Assistance. We are walking on the road-that is-the Christian walk, and sometimes, we fall by the side the road, and we need to call for help. I did, and got assistance, to get me back up, healed and ready to go again. Tho, I had to do some drastic measures to get back up, I still had many hands in prayer lifting me up, so it didn't feel so alone. So remember, to always carry your Journey Road Assistance card with you at all times, don't leave home without it, and don't forget to include the founder of it either. (God)

As a leadership team and a church we have spent the last month and half planning, meeting, praying and pushing each other to high, deeper levels of commitment with God and Journey.

The last few weeks have been emotionally, physically and spiritually exhausting! Yet great things have been happening. We all survived and this Sunday we experience record attendance at our Sunday morning gathering... 92 total!!!

Thank God for helping us stay the course, be more intentionally and seeing the positive results. May we see what the early church saw.... "mant added to their numbers daily."

May God refill you and help you press on, we have much work to do while there is still light.

Here's an prayer request that was e-mailed to me tonight....

Some of you have heard and some of you may have not so I wanted to send out an update on my mom. She had a Dr. appt. on Monday and it was discovered that she has a 6" diameter tumor in her pelvis (attached to one of her ovaries). This has given us quite a scare, however, the surgeons are very confident that because of its' size it is not cancerous. She will be undergoing a complete hysterectomy tomorrow morning along with the removal of the tumor. At that time, they will test it to make sure it is not cancerous. If it is not cancerous that will conclude the surgery. If it were to be found to contain cancer cells, the surgery will continue and they will take some additional tissue and parts of other organs and determine the course of treatment after that. At this time we are remaining optimistic and hopeful that it is benign.....all the signs are looking good!! She will be in the hospital for 2-3 days and be off of work for 6 weeks. Please keep her (and us) in your thoughts and prayers! I will let you know how it all turns out.

Love to all,

Michelle Haugen

Prayer update from Michelle,

Hello everyone! Thanks for all of your well wishes and prayers! Things went very smoothly today. She was out of surgery by 10:30. Turns out the mass was endometriosis....which is non cancerous. They did, however take her appendix and had to re-position her bowels since the endometriosis had moved them out of place and because of that she will be in the hospital for at least 4 days. We are very thankful of the outcome. She was pretty groggy this afternoon and was feeling nauseous from the anesthesia and had quite a bit of abdominal pain (to be expected) but was in good spirits and very relieved of the news!!

Thanks again to all of you for your thoughts and prayers.

This prayer request was sent to me today by Janell..she asks her church family to prayer for her mom.... (Please pray and reach out to her at this time)

She went in for her cancer check up on Friday and found out very devastating news. They have found four new tumors in her lungs that they can't operate on due to being to close to her blood vessels. She is going back on Chemo Therapy this next week sometime for four months. Then after the four months they are going to reevaluate and see what the situation is. This news was unexpected considering she has already battled cancer twice and we were hoping she was on the road to recovery. This news is devastating to everyone and I need her to be lifted up in pray right now.
