HEROES.... Are you on the list?

This week we launched into a new discussion series at church inspireed by the hit TV show "HEREOES" on NBC.
Ordinary people are finding out that they have extraordinary abilities. Now what do they do with the gift that they have been given? Will they hide it, will others accept them and their new gift? Most of the story thus far has delt with how the "heroes" from all over the world are beginning to connect and fight a common foe.

The Bible is packed full of ordinary men and women that God transformed into "heroes" Hebrews chapter 11 is commonly known as the "Heroes Hall of Fame". Bible greats that we need to remember, because they remind us, inspire us to step out and follow God.

Ewrin McManus in his book Chasiing Daylight writes, "Jesus came to take our mundane lives and make the miraculous."

Gideon was the least in his tribe, in the weakest tribe, at a time when all of Isreal was gripped by fear. A great foe... the midiantes wanted to destroy the Isrealites. As Gideons story begins he and his people are hiding in caves and actually starving because the crops are being destoryed or taken by their enemy.

Then an angel appears and calls this fearful, weakest of the weak guy "Mighty Hero!" God has a plan to take this seemingly simple guy on an amazing adventure that will help free Isreal and bring a nation back to God! What a great "ORIGIN" story.
God choices to use an ordinary man for a extraordinary purpose.

Are you on the list? Do you have a "origin" story that retells how you met God and how He called you out and into his great adventure? Share it, write it down, jump into your story. If it hasn't happened yet... beware, God may appear to you and day and turn your mundane life into a miraculaous adventure.

This past week I know of a person that was served by a hero from within our church. The remains like the Lone Ranger.... unknown, masked, someone that "rode in and saved the day."

It was great to hear the reponse of the receiver. They were blown away, deeply touched. NO it did not solve all of the life problems that this one is facing... but it lighten the load and privide a big shot in the arm (emotionally, physically and spiritually).

Hereos are all around us, every day doing what appear to be simple, and yet powerful acts. Are you on the list? Don't think "save the world hero"... simplly think... invest in another and maybe become a hero to one!

SIDEKICKS.... who needs them, who wants to be one?
Many of the greatest heroes had sidekicks. Partners that made them better, helped them withstand the weight of leadership and the heat that comes with battle. Sidekicks may not always get the spotlight, but they are needed.
God throughout history has taken ordinary men and women, partnered them with others used them greatly. The over riding trait of a sidekick is SERVANT!

Looking back over my years of ministry I have longed to be a "leader". But the truth is I never became one, until serving as a sidekick.

I've lead youth ministries... under Sr.Pastors.
Ran the sound board.
Acted as PR guy for many events, groups, churches and speakers.
I was a church plant intern for 9 months.
Looking back it's great to see how being a partner/ sidekick along side a more mature believer or more charasmatic personality has prepared me for my public ministry as a pastor leader.
And today, I am forever grateful for the "sidekicks" that serve along side me to help make me a better pastor. You fill my gaps, raise me up, and sustain me. Thannks

KRYPTONITE.... pieces from the planet Kryptone that render Superman powerless. When he comes in contact with Kyrptonite, he goes from extraordinary to ordinary.

What is the kryptonite in my life? Or your life?
What is the one or two things that can bring us down to our knees, emotionally, physocally, spiritually and perhaps hurt our reputation so bad we never fully recover. We miss out on all the amazing things God had instore for us.

Porn, pride, lies, anger, lust, chaating, etc.
These ase just a few of the forms that kryptonite take on. Some look so attractive, so harmless and yet the take us from extraordinary to ordinary or worse.

Can we protect ourselves from Kyrptonite?
Yes, identifity what it is in and stay away from it at all cost. Have a few select, high quality friends stand guard with you and for you. And above all else, stay close with and allow him to transform you (me) so that we don't desire these things.

As I think of Superman, I am reminded that Kyptonite is nothing to mess with. I pray and hope that I remain fully ware what can make me fall and avoid it all cost.
