Well day one of the Exponential Church conference in Orlando, FL. is done. Today I attended a break out session (part 1 of 2) featuring lead Pastor Mark Batterson.
Mark pastors NCC which is a church plant the meets in Union Station in Washington DC. Mark was talking Creative Communication. I found it interesting that Mark stressed the power and important of Internal communication verse always external communication, promotions, PR.
Tomorrow Mark will be going deeper into how they use creative communication in the message series and how he prepares himself and his team for it.
On a personal note, I was happy and surprised by how much of what shared we at Journey are already doing or have done. I continue to feel that as a church we are doing many, many things right by church plant growth standards. As always... we’ll wait on God to grow us to the next level. Creative communication is a must for a church to clearly communicate the Gospel... but it does not mean your church will automatically grow.

Exponential Day 2
Day two of the Exponential Conference and my mind is jammed packed.
Two highlights of the day...
#1 - Hearing more about Creative Communication with Mark Batterson.
Today included some fresh stuff on message prep and crafting a talk that last lasting impact. Once again I am reminded that we have the greatest message to share.... let's share it with greatness and care.
#2 - Andy Stanley addressed the entire conference and talked about the importance ofd Vision. Stanley made a great commit when he said, "Vision is making a mental picture of what could be, fueled by the passion that it has to be."
Vision and passion what a great one to punch to lead, grow and disciple people to change the world for God!
In all the conference has been great to hear others share their dreams and what God is doing all over the country and the world.
The Kingdom of God is active and moving, church planters are risking big... and there is need for more planters, more churches and the mission is far from over. Two days down.... day three starts at 8 a.m. Way to early after two days.
On a personal not, it was great to see Tony Wheeler... former attender at Journey that has moved to Orlando and has a desire to plant a church in Orlando.
Alan Hirsch
Day three and boy are we tired!
Today packed full of timely information, dreams, plans and discussion about church planting really being a movement... instead of just a thing we try and have happen.
My take away for the day came from author, church planting and church analyst Alan Hirsch. Hirsch has authored a book entitled "Forgotten Ways: Reactivating the missional church. http://www.theforgottenways.org/
Much of what Alan shared, the two times that I heard him was, connected with long standing questions and thoughts that I had about church and faith. Plus he presented several ideas that really pushed my mind and own idea of church planting.
Alan Hirsch made a great case to explore deeper the Apostolic leadership role of visionaries and leaders not just pastors that lead churches. With his Australian accent Hirsch was a breath of fresh air in a setting where we could easily believe we americans know it all.
I look forward to reading his book and seeing how it effects my already uncivilized passion for leading people radically follow Jesus.
In the last session, we heard one of the most passion presentations of the conference from Steve Andrews. Andrews should have opened the conference! It would have set a high bar for everyone else to share, challenge and risk from the stage.
One more day!
Truck dies
Well after an amazing conference in Orlando I had to make the trip back to reality... rainy, cold, MInnesota. Take off with 85 degree weather and land with rain and 45 degrees (at the most). My poor Brained friends had snow waiting for them.
My flight home was awesome. I had a two hour discussion with a non-believer from Canada. It was so refreshing to opening share my faith and to hear his serious abjections to any form faith. I came to understand his point of view. Faith growing up was fake and just for show. He had never heard or seen what a real relationship with God could be.
Sad news is ... all great experiences must come to an end.
My did on 35 W south when my Durango died on the Highway. (Might be a transmission problem). I meet a nice State Patrol man and got to spend more time with my good friend Paul Heppner.
What's amazing is that I never got angry about the car dying on me.
I prayed and prayed that it would not be a serious matter or cost me an arm and a leg. So now I await to see what happens with the truck.
My attitude has not changed... I am focused on taking what I heard and learned from the Orlando conference, regardless of my truck problems. Yes, it's a serious bummer to have a great week end like that... really it is!!!! But God is bigger and more important than my transmission.
So back to the mission I go... let's see what happens next.
