My elephant: Divorced people in churches are often shunned by church members; they are treated as inferior, scum, and evil. The church is scared that an epidemic of divorce will occur in the church if the married socialize with the divorced. The church should focus on loving all, including the divorced, just as Jesus would, and the church should develop programs to help people learn how to choose the right spouse for marriage. The church could learn lots from divorced people and what was wrong with their marriage that made them want to leave. Marriage is glamorized in our society and this needs to be stopped because too many people get married to the wrong people. People need to be trained in choosing proper partners and the church is a perfect source to provide this training. I am speaking from experience; I was recently divorced, am shunned by my church, and feel I got married without good reasons.
