Journey Camp week

This week we began a five day adventure at Camp Victory.
We are partnering with Camp Victory and having an "uncivilized" experience for 10th - college age. I'm hoping and praying that the week will be very personal and life changing. I hope that these campers begin to see Christ in a new way. Rather than Jesus a white guy that wore a robe, sandals, had long hair and beard and talked softly.

No Jesus was a revolutionar, because he not only talked about loving people... he actually did it. The way that he loved people, blew everyone away. It wasn't religious talk... it was relationship based. That relationship focused life of love and forgiveness transformed people and ignited a anger in others to stop Jesus movement.

This week, I pray that a new revolution of the heart and soul begins in these campers that triggers a chain reaction in others. Reactions both for against Christ.

Stay tuned.

At the end of our first full day at camp I began to sense the beginning of trust and openiness with some of the campers and staff. As we played Capture the flag in the dark it was fun to see them treat me as one of their own. "Cheeto" (My camp nickname) had now been accepted.
It's important to note this, because it's not until you have a relationship with people that you can really speak into their lives.

I'm lookiung forward to today as we dicuss what "deep water faith" is all about. I pray that questions and deeper discuissions begin today and we move to some heart matters with these campers. Maybe playing "Bulldogs" later this morning will help too :)

Tonight was club night... the campers really seemed to enjoy the Journey Church band.

Thanks, Alex, Andy, Amy, Dan and Greg.
Awesome night.

Camp came and went very fast. Actually it was shorter week than normal. This week faced several pumps in the road. The weather was not picture perfect and some of our pre-planned idea had to dropped or adjusted. Financial struggles caused the camp to make a hard choice and release "Bread of Stone" from leading worship all week long. Attendance was down... but it's down across the board.

In spite of all of that, I believe the week came together well. A couple of campers expressed a desire to recommit themselves more fully to God, while others clearly took the challenge to live more boldly as a disciple of Christ.

My hope is that God was seen and glorified this week and these young adults grew in wisdom, faith and understanding of the high cost and calling of following Jesus. It's dangerous, exciting and well worth it!

I hope that next year, we have many more volunteers from Journey involved, and that the camp is packed to the max.
